Creating Space is an annual meeting exploring the evolving use of arts, humanities and social sciences (AHSS) in healthcare education. Over its first five years, Creating Space has become a key crossroads of ideas in which practitioners, artists and scholars gather to discuss how to better prepare learners to engage with the complexities of health and illness that they encounter as nascent health professionals.

As health professions become aware of the relationships binding them to the societies they serve, the importance of an academic community that embraces a more humanist view of health professions education has never been greater. Rising to this social agenda, Creating Space aims to empower our community in its quest to educate collaborative learners competent in engaging with the ambiguities of practice, responsive to shifting patient needs and conscious of responsibilities to the societies to which they belong.

The next symposium will be held in Montreal on April 15 and 16 2016 under the them Health Humanities:  Social Accountability in action.

Creating Space seeks to include the ever-growing number of artists, practitioners,  educators, and scholars from multiple disciplines whose work at the intersections of AHSS and clinical spheres inspires health professions education in Canada and abroad. Student participation from AHSS disciplines and health professions is strongly encouraged.

Creating Space est un colloque annuel qui explore l’intégration des arts ainsi que des sciences humaines et sociales (AHSS) dans la formation des professionnels en santé. Au cours de ses cinq premières années, Creating Space est devenu un carrefour d’idées clés au sein duquel artistes, cliniciens et universitaires se réunissent pour partager leurs expériences dans la formation des professionnels aux complexités de la santé et de la maladie.

Une vision humaniste de la formation des professionnels de santé suscite plus que jamais l’intérêt de la communauté des sciences de la santé. Pour illustrer cet intérêt, Creating Space invite ses acteurs à s’engager dans la formation de professionnels compétents et conscients de leurs responsabilités envers la société, ouverts  à la collaboration et au dialogue social et prêts à répondre adéquatement aux ambiguïtés de la pratique et à l’évolution des besoins des patients.

Le prochain colloque aura lieu à Montréal les 15-16 avril 2016 sous le thème L’humanisme en santé: un engagement social.

Creating Space propose des échanges interdisciplinaires entre les nombreux artistes, cliniciens, éducateurs et chercheurs qui inspirent et influencent la formation des professionnels de la santé au Canada et à l’étranger. La participation des étudiants est vivement encouragée.
