Nature et Âme

C’est le mariage de l’âme avec la Nature qui …donne naissance à l’imagination.

Ce projet en médiation culturelle est née grâce a une subvention de la Fédération culturelle canadienne-française (FCCF). Trois projets furent choisis. Nature et Âme fut la contribution de l’Ouest. Un travail en dance avec des écoliers en Ontario et un de poésie avec des adolescents au Nouveau Brunswick furent créés en tout. En réponse à un appel à la communauté francophone de Vancouver et Surrey, sept participants sont venus et c’est parmi eux que le groupe des cinq artistes c’est consolidé. Après avoir choisi le thème spécifique a notre communauté : Nature et Âme, le groupe décida la méthode d’expression. Le groupe voulut que cela soit une installation qui puisse être vue à plusieurs reprises donc transportable avec une partie participative pour le public. Vu l’échéancier et nos disponibilités l’idée de modifier une tente de festival fut adoptée. Nous allions créer un genre de petit labyrinthe a l’intérieure avec des parois de tissues adapter par chaque artistes et avec une paroi vide et transparente sur laquelle le public pourrait créer. Une bande sonore augmenterait l’expérience immersive. La suite fut plusieurs rencontres de travail dans mon atelier pour installer et créer les parois.

Notre première sortie en public fut lors de la fête de la St Jean Baptiste a la Canada Place a Vancouver. Notre sortie suivante fut lors du Festival des Indes. Des milliers de spectateurs l’ont vue et des dizaines participèrent. Notre dernière sortie à Vancouver fut lors du Pic-Nic des résidents permanents organisé par le Programme Immigration Francophone. Une cinquantaine de personnes, adultes et enfants y on participait. Finalement, la structure avec la bande sonore fut intégrée dans une performance multidisciplinaire et participative en collaboration avec le poète Jonathan Roy et la chorégraphe Anik Bouvrette lors du congrès annuel de la FCCF a Moncton.

Nature and Soul

This project in socially engaged art was made possible by a grant from the Fédération culturelle canadienne-française (FCCF). Three projects were chosen. Nature and Soul was the project from the West, a dance project with school children in Ontario and a poetry work with adolescents in New Brunswick . In response to a call to the francophone community in Vancouver and Surrey seven participants responded and five became the committed artistes. After having chosen the specific theme: Nature and Soul, the group chose the means of expression. The group wanted the installation to be seen on multiple occasions and to include a participative component for the public. We decided to modify a party tent.

Each artist created a panel inside the tent creating a labyrinth and a transparent panel for the public to paint on. A sound tract was added for an immersive experience. Following several workshops in my studio, our first show was at the St Jean Baptiste Festival at the Canada Place in Vancouver. Next, we were at the Festival of India where thousands of spectators saw the work and dozens participated. Our last outing in Vancouver was for the Pic-Nic of the permanents residents organized by the Francophone Immigration Program. Fifty people, adults and children participated. Finally, the installation and its sound tract was integrated in a participative performance in collaboration with the poet Jonathan Roy and the choreograph Anik Bouvrette during the annual conference of the FCCF in Moncton.
